Frequently Asked Questions

New Rules for 2013:

Regionals:

Song & Dance:
Routine should contain simultaneous singing while dancing from any of our performance categories. (StarQuest tap mics will be utilized for “hands free” singing.)

Regional Title:
A Classic performer can choose to enter the Regional Title Competition. All Title Soloists, whether Classic or Select, compete for the Regional Title. (Note: Since NO competition can possibly know how many hours a child dances, how many years they have danced, or the degree of competition experience, Studio Directors are left to their own judgment when choosing to put their students up for title.)

World Finals:
The 2013 StarQuest World Finals is an OPEN INVITATIONAL! You do not have to enter a 2013 StarQuest Regional Competition to compete at the 2013 World Finals! All entries must be from& entered by a studio. Soloists may perform an unlimited number of solos at the 2013 World Finals. (Regional Rules regarding Levels, Divisions, Time Limits, Music, Age Ranges, Age Classes, Performance Categories & Additional Categories apply.) Copies of birth certificates for all contestants competing in the 2013 World Finals must accompany the entry forms. The 2013 World Finals fees can be found at every studio’s StarQuest online registration Home Page. All ages for the 2013 World Finals are as of January 1, 2013.

2013 WORLD TITLE
A soloist may perform an unlimited number of solos for World Title at the 2013 World Finals. Each title entry's score is separate and not related to its adjudication score. The title score is based on the performer's overall performance ability, personality and entertainment skills in addition to technique. The contestant with the highest title score is the 2013 StarQuest World Title winner. A Classic performer can choose to enter the World Title Competition. All Title Solos, whether Classic or Select, compete for the World Title. (Studio Directors are left to their own judgment when choosing to put their students up for World Title.) You do not have to enter or win a 2013 Regional Title to compete for the 2013 World Title! 2012 World Title Winners cannot compete for a 2013 Regional Title or a 2013 World Title within the same age class. 2013 World Title winners cannot compete for another 2013 World Title in another 2013 World Finals city. The 2013 World Title Entry Fee is $50. Each 2013 World Title winner will receive a large trophy, StarQuest apparel plus a Gift Certificate to any 2013 StarQuest regional competition. Their picture will appear in our 2014 Regional and 2014 World Finals Programs. Female Title Winners will also receive a bouquet of flowers and a tiara.

Before the Competition:

Where is the exact location of the competition?
Go to our Regionals and click on your competition city. The street address of the venue as well as a link that will give directions to the venue is located there.

How do I know when my son/daughter is dancing?
The Schedule will be available at least eight days prior to your competition date. Go to our home page and click on your competition city and you will find the schedule link. Specific entry numbers will be sent directly to the Studio Director.

Do you accept independent entries?

I noticed a mistake in the schedule. What do I do?

When do I need to get to the competition?
Please ask your studio director to find out when he or she wants you to arrive at the competition. Because we tend to run early, we ask that all dancers be ready to dance at least 1 hour prior to their scheduled time. Anyone in the audience hoping to watch a particular dancer should be there one hour ahead of time as well.

Do you have different levels of competition?
Yes, we have 2 levels.
Select: For dancers who take more than 5 hours of class per week and/or have significant competition experience.
Classic: For dancers who take 5 hours or less of class per week and/or have limited competition experience.

What is the cut-off date for the age categories?
All ages, including solos, are calculated as of January 1. We do not round up—simply drop the decimal.
