Years of dancing makes for tons of dance shoes. There are closets everywhere filled with unused tap, ballet, jazz, character, and pointe shoes. Also, there are dancers everywhere that can’t afford to buy the proper shoes for class. Did you know that the average cost for a good pair of dance shoes ranges from $40 – $100 a pair? That’s a lot of money! Not every dancer is able to afford the pricey costs of appropriate dance shoes. Some have to practice their passion without the appropriate shoes to support them.
As we grow from children, to teenagers, and beyond, our shoe size constantly changes. That means lots of unused dance shoes left behind! There may be some pairs you haven’t touched in years! The good news is, you can do something with all of those unused shoes, thanks to our #DanceCharityOfTheWeek, Footloose.
Everybody Cut Loose
Footloose is a charity founded by dancer Becca Duberman, dedicated to donating new and gently used shoes to dancers in need all over the world. Since their founding in 2010, they’ve donated over 6,000 pairs of shoes to places all over the world, from Los Angeles to Ghana and more! That means any shoe you donate could end up in any corner of the world. How cool is that?!
So if you’re looking to donate and help out a fellow dancer, here’s how you can help:
- Check out their website to see if you have a Footloose “drop box” location in your area. Every Fall, they will accept donations at these locations.
- If you don’t have any Footloose drop boxes in your area, you can donate throughout the year by shipping your shoes. Footloose will help you ship your shoes to an organization that needs them.
- If you don’t have any shoes to give at the moment, they also accept monetary donations on their website to fund the purchase of dance shoes to be donated.
If Footloose doesn’t have a drop box in your area and you’re looking to get involved, there’s some good news for you! Footloose is always looking for motivated teenagers to set up new donation sites in their area. Because of that, you can become an ambassador for Footloose and have the opportunity to help others, meet some awesome new people, and do something incredible with your free time! For more information about starting a donation or shipping shoes, you can email the organization at email@example.com.
So what are you waiting for? Time to whip out those unused dance shoes and put them to use! For more information, take a look at https://www.footloosemission.com/
