#ScholarshipOfTheWeek: The Dream Audition for Opportunities Galore!- NYC Dance Alliance
May 18th, 2018 by Richie Kormos
Choosing a college is anything but easy. There are just so many out there to pick! And if you plan to study dance, the process can be even harder than that of the average college shopper. Auditioning for schools is a daunting process. You have to put yourself out there for so many people, and for some it can be really scary! Luckily, our #ScholarshipOfTheWeek can make that process a little easier.
Every Summer, the New York City Dance Alliance provides a 4-day Summer Workshop for those who are intending to study dance in college. The process consists of four days (July 3rd through July 6th) of dance classes. As well as a question and answer segment, a college fair, and the opportunity for potential college interviews! By the end, you could have the opportunity to earn a four-year scholarship at any of the colleges attending the workshop!
What’s so great about this opportunity is that you can just go about taking a ballet or contemporary class as you usually would. This will serve as your scholarship evaluation in front of a group of college representatives. You can skip some of the stress of going school to audition, because many amazing representatives from several top dance programs will be there. These schools include: Marymount Manhattan College, Pace University (NY), Point Park University, Mercyhurst University (PA), The Hartt School (CT), Montclair State University (NJ), Southern Methodist University (TX), University of Arizona, Tuscon (AZ), and many more!
How to Participate
The only requirements are that you recently completed your junior or senior year in high school. And that you register for the event. Check out the link at: http://www.nycdance.com/nycda_foundation/scholarships___goals.aspx for the application.
The scholarship recipients will be announced on July 5th. Over 400 dancers have received scholarships from this workshop in the past, ranging from $5,000 to $160,000! How exciting is that? If you’re having a hard time deciding where you may want to go in the future, this could make the decision that much easier for you! Good luck to all those applying!
Do you know a dance scholarship that we should feature?
