#WhereAreTheyNow – Dee Tomasetta
May 21st, 2019 by Elizabeth Radabaugh
Deanna “Dee” Tomasetta has been turning heads ever since she was born in Massachusetts. She started dancing at just 2 years old and hasn’t stopped since. Dee spent her younger competing alongside her dance family at Elite Academy Of Dance. At eleven years old, she decided to take voice and acting lessons, truly solidifying her triple threat status. StarQuest watched as Dee rocked the stage year after year. In 2009, she was crowned Elite 8 Miss StarQuest with her performance of “Almost” at our Northampton, MA event. When she graduated from high school, Dee knew the arts was the career for her. She attended the University of Michigan and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2014!
A Great Start
Even though Dee was busy studying at school, she was not done competing. She started auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance. In 2013, she landed on the show and made it to the Top 15 Female Dancers! She made such an impression that they invited her back in 2014 as an assistant choreographer under Mia Michaels. These experiences gave Dee a great head start in her career. After college, she landed appearances left and right. She can be seen in 6 episodes of Saturday Night Live as a dancer. You can see her on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel every now and then as a dancer as well! Soon, you will be able to see her dancing and singing for Disney’s Freaky Friday Movie Musical.
Dee hasn’t shied from the stage either. She appeared in the Ensemble for the Radio City New York Spectacular. She also appeared in a Mia Michaels original work at the Geffen Playhouse Los Angeles to honor Lin-Manual Miranda and Dick Van Dyke. Most recently, she played the role of Peter Pan in the First National Tour of Finding Neverland. Dee was also the Associate Choreographer for Finding Neverland’s Broadway National Tour! To take her talents one step further, she has some experience modeling as well. She has modeled for MAC Cosmetics, Capezio Dancewear, and Hasbro Products USA.
Grateful Every Step Of The Way
Dee has taken the experiences she’s been gifted and wants to give them to younger dancers just like her. Currently, she is on the dance faculty at AMDA (the American Musical And Dramatic Academy in NYC). She also teaches as a guest artist at various schools around the country, including her home dance school, Elite Academy Of Dance. Even her Alma Mater, University Of Michigan, has noticed her undeniable determination. In 2018, she received the Emerging Artist Alumni Award from the University itself.
No matter where Dee has gone and what she does, she has always stopped to thank those that helped her along the way. “I am forever grateful for every mentor, director, choreographer, colleague and artist I had the honor to work with. They have shed so much knowledge and light on my path, I would not be the woman and performer I am today without their gracious impact on my life.” We are so proud of Dee and can’t wait to see where she takes her talents next!
