The Experience is the Real Award.
During our #SQToledo event, we witnessed a moment that reminded us why we love dance. It wasn't just about the technique; it was about the hearts on stage. The Adult Competition Team from Spotlight Studio, an incredible group of nine adult dancers, has been hitting the stage together for five years, and we loved to have them taking over the #SQStage ! Their journey started with a simple, brave idea. Spotlight Studio noticed a gap in their community and decided to create a space specifically for adult educators and enthusiasts to reclaim their passion. It took a little convincing at first, but five years later, this team is proof that the stage doesn't have an expiration date. The group is a beautiful mix of stories: some are dance moms with kids currently competing or recently graduated, while others are dancers who hadn't stepped into a studio since they were children. One member shared that she truly believed her days of performing were over, until she found this team. They even have dancers in their 50s and 60s at the studio, proving that rhythm is timeless. When they took the StarQuest stage this weekend, the energy was electric. They weren't just performing a routine; they were reclaiming a part of themselves. As the members so eloquently put it: "You are never too old to dance and to be on stage." To the dancers of Spotlight Studio, thank you for being a beacon of inspiration for the entire #DanceFam . You reminded us all that the "Artist Mindset" is a lifelong journey and that’s why you are this week’s perfect #SQMomentOfTheWeek ! ... See MoreSee Less
Meet Autumn Peltier, a young changemaker who is advocating for clean and safe drinking water in Indigenous communities.
From a young age, Autumn became aware that many First Nations communities did not have access to safe water, something many people often take for granted.
Inspired to make a difference, Autumn began speaking out about water protection and the importance of respecting natural resources. By the age of 12, she was already addressing national leaders, and she has since spoken on global stages to raise awareness about water rights and environmental responsibility.
Autumn’s work shows how using your voice can create meaningful change. Through her leadership and advocacy, she continues to inspire others to stand up for what matters and protect resources that are essential to all communities.

Professional Growth Insight: Communicate Effectively
We encourage you to develop strong communication skills as you grow in the performing arts. Clear, thoughtful communication helps build trust with directors, instructors, and fellow performers, creating a more collaborative and supportive environment.
Effective communication is more than speaking clearly. It includes active listening, asking clarifying questions, awareness of body language, and the ability to respond with intention. These skills allow artists to better understand direction, adapt in rehearsals, and contribute meaningfully to the creative process.
Training in the performing arts shows that communication skills can also be developed through practices like acting, improvisation, and voice work. These experiences help artists build confidence, express themselves authentically, and navigate both creative and professional interactions with greater ease. Over time, strong communication becomes an essential foundation for collaboration, professionalism, and long-term growth.
