StarQuest Dance Competition
The Experience is the Real Award.
There is a specific kind of magic that only happens in the wings of a stage. It’s that mix of “What’s the first step?“ and "I can’t wait to start." During our #SQLakeland1 event, we were all reminded of exactly why we fall in love with dance in the first place. Meet Camren, this week’s #SQMomentOfTheWeek, a 10-year-old from Powerhouse Dance Company. This weekend marked a massive milestone: Camren’s very first competition solo ever! Performing her piece, "Rainbow in the Dark," she stepped out into the lights for the first time. Like so many of us before our first big moment, Camren was feeling the nerves, but they were outweighed by the comp excitement. Her favorite part of the whole experience? The chance to perform her heart out for her biggest fan: her mom. We have all stood in those same shoes, heart racing, looking for a friendly face in the audience. And knowing your dance family is there, always makes things better! Seeing Camren shine reminds us to look back and realize how far we’ve come, while celebrating the brave, fresh energy of those just beginning their journey. Congratulations to all dancers taking the StarQuest stage for the first time this season. We can’t wait to watch you grow. ... See MoreSee Less

Creative inspiration can take many forms, but it often comes from artists who show us what dedication to the craft really looks like. Their journeys remind us that growth as a performer is shaped through preparation, persistence, and a willingness to keep learning.
Today’s ‘Creative Energizer’ is Isaac Hernández, a Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre whose career reflects both discipline and a deep commitment to artistic growth. From training in his family’s backyard in Mexico, to performing on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, Hernández has built his path by embracing challenges and staying open to new experiences.
Hernández speaks about the importance of perspective and resilience in the creative process. Rather than getting stuck in mistakes or difficult moments, he emphasizes the value of stepping back and continuing forward with intention. As he explains:
“I’ve learned to focus on the bigger picture rather than getting stuck in moments that don’t go as planned.”
His perspective offers an important reminder for young performers: growth doesn’t come from perfection, but from the ability to keep moving, learning, and refining your craft over time. Staying focused on the bigger picture allows artists to remain confident, adaptable, and fully engaged in their creative journey.
